Why Counselling

Why Counselling?

Everyone is unique, with their own personal view of the world, their own responses to different life events and their own reasons for considering counselling.

Your story matters, because you matter, and so you will be encouraged to speak honestly and openly, and feel understood and accepted for who you are.

Sometimes the people closest to you may not understand your situation, or you may feel that you don’t want to burden them with your worries. Then again, they may be part of the problem.

Effective counselling can help you discover new strengths as you build a deeper self awareness around many issues including:

• feelings of anxiety, depression or stress
• lack of self confidence
• loss or bereavement in your life, including recovering from a break-up
• relationship difficulties
• drinking too much alcohol, or taking too many drugs which is affecting your life and your relationships adversely

While counselling is not a magic wand and can’t change the external circumstances you have to deal with, what it can do is help you to explore strategies for coping with difficulties, as well as allow you to gain some insight into your own behaviour. This is really valuable information for change, especially in times of stress when we all find it harder to see things clearly.
